Powder & Patch & Peril

Fall 2025 Newsletter

After a busy summer, I sent my twelfth novel off to my editor. A Winter’s Disgrace involves illegitimacy, inheritance, family conflict, and two people escaping very different situations in a snow storm. My favorite lines:

Ryegate snapped, “I’ll be stretched lifeless before I see Frederick in my shoes. You will—” Cyprian nodded gravely. “In strict fact, that is certainly true.” “Damn your impudence,” his progenitor bawled.

A Winter’s Disgrace will probably be out in about nine months. As usual, there is no explicit sex but some humor.

Here are a few of my favorite reads this year. I’m including links because I can’t figure out how to position a picture of the cover beside the title/author. If you know, please email me!

Tidbits from reviews of two of my novels, Most Secret, my second, and A Murder of Convenience, my eleventh:

A Murder of Convenience

“…Buckley has written a book that is both thought-provoking and enjoyable, which makes A Murder of Convenience unique among historical mysteries. 5 stars from The Historical Fiction Company and the ‘Highly Recommended’ award of excellence.” DK Marley, The Historical Fiction Company, March 28, 2025, https://www.thehistoricalfictioncompany.com/post/a-sham-marriage-and-murder-in-a-locked-room-an-editorial-review-of-a-murder-of-convenience

Most Secret

“The extensive research put into the novel deserves commendation. Buckley has taken that research and created a story that resonates with historical accuracy. I truly felt like I stepped back in time while engrossed in this captivating novel.” The Historical Fiction Company https://tinyurl.com/y2pmr6we

Happy upcoming Halloween and I’ll see you in December…or maybe January. This was our Halloween display from last year.

Kathleen Buckley writes traditional historical romance (no explicit sex) set in England in the 1740s. The characters are not always aristocrats, not always handsome or beautiful, and sometimes actually work for a living. She avoids ballrooms and tea parties and likes to get her historical details right.
